New website to promote sport in Northumberland

Northumberland Sport are one of 45 regional sport partnerships operating across England. As a County Sport Partnership (CSP), they are funded by Sport England to deliver specific projects on their behalf.

M Media & Design (mm&d) successfully won a tender process and were appointed by Northumberland Sport to design and develop a new website for the CSP.

The mission of Northumberland Sport is to lead the strategic development of sport and physical activity in Northumberland to enable people to become more active. This mission was an underlying theme for the website and needed to be in consideration at all phases of the website project.

The brief was to drive meaningful and responsive connections to a wide range of audience demographics, ensuring they find the website navigation easy to use. Key pages and projects would be prominent on all pages of the website.

Previously the site wasn’t easy to navigate and crucially the site wasn’t responsible to mobile phone and tablet devices. Over recent years the way users view websites has changed considerably and it was important the mobile viewing experience was central to design considerations.

Another key feature of the new website would be the integration of a club and activity finder. This module had been built as a stand-alone website for a partnership of North East-based CSPs. Tees Valley Sport, County Durham Sport, Tyne and Wear Sport and Northumberland Sport had collaborated together to form a central database where users can find a nearby club of activity. mm&d were then appointed to build the website (www.getactivenortheast.co.uk).

Data would need to feed from the stand alone site and into the new Northumberland Sport site. This would need to be seamless to the front-end user and would not require them to leave the site.

There would be other important sections to the site such as a sports directory, meet the team pages and social media integration. Kaye Scott, Business and Marketing Officer, Northumberland Sport:

It was a pleasure to work with the team at mm&d. The design skills of the team were a breath of fresh air and we feel we now have a website that meets the needs of our customers as well as presenting the work of Northumberland Sport in the right way.”

Sport continues to be a major area of focus for mm&d. Alongside education and engineering, sport is one of the main areas of marketing expertise the agency offers.

We were delighted to be appointed by Northumberland Sport to work on their new website. Over the years we have worked with several CSPs around the country on various design projects, but this was our first CSP website.

We are really pleased with the outcome and the feedback we have had from Northumberland Sport has been great.”
